Rhea Sylvia Lagat

When people talk about science, culture, economy or politics, they use English in communication. In this way, each of us might wonder why do we need to learn English when our first language is enough? How will the learning of this language help one’s understanding of the world?

English language is considered as a member of the Germanic language family which in turn belongs to the Indo-European language family. No study can ever identify the exact number of the native speakers of English and there are many studies and researches claimed and proved that there are different countries with different races of people who use English as their second language. Each of these countries is able to speak English because this language gives opportunities to open new business and commercial around the globe. Hence, English is the language of international business and politics, and as far the most commonly-learned second language all over the world. Moreover, English, as the official language of international organizations serves as a showplace for each nation and organization to present itself to the world.

English is capable of evolving and developing completely independent speakers. No study can really measure the significance of learning English language. Every language is given worth and effort to learn, as every language is complete way of describing the universe and of human achievement, and thus its’ importance is as wide and as deep as we thought about it.
